I can hear it now, “Just $162?” Although I’m not running around touting how I made an extra $12356340978.00 without working, imagine making even $1 extra without having to do anything extra with your day! I love making money without having to work for it aka Passive Income. But have you ever thought about Passive Income that didn’t even have to do with your business? Well I’m about to tell you what happened to me on just Monday alone!
I have two cats and one of them likes to go through a hairball weekly session. What does this mean? It meas for one week every month, she eats my plants and throws up all over my carpet Because I don’t have time to stand there shampooing my carpet everyday for a week, I’ve always invested in a Spotbot. Now my first Spotbot went out of commission so it was more than time to purchase another one. I check Amazon and it’s listed for an amazing price of $129! However, I don’t feel like spending $129 because my stupid cat wants to stupid throw up every stupid month. What to do? What to do? Then I remember my Mypoints account!! Yay — well let me explain to you what Mypoints is. This is an online service that you use to shop. You can either go to their website, click on the store you’re trying to shop online in and receive points that way OR you can simply install their app in your browser and it automatically reminds you to click on it to use it before you start shopping. (I have it installed on my browser that way I never forget to use it) That’s it. Nothing to it. Just shop through their link and get points for every dollar you spend. The points differ; for some stores it’s 3 points per dollar and for some it’s 2. You even get points for taking surveys and printing/ using grocery coupons from their site.
ANYWAY I went to my Mypoints account to see how many points I’d accumulated (I use it when I shop for myself AND my clients so it’s not that hard for me to rack up points) and I see I have enough for a $100 Amazon gift card (with points left over!!). So I hurry and get my gift card, buy the Spotbot and add a 3 year extended warranty!! All I ended up paying was $30!
Side note – for those of you with pets, I TOTALLY recommend the Spotbot Pet! It’s a life saver, but when you purchase it, I would add the extended warranty. Due to hair balls etc..it tends to get clogged. But don’t let that be a deterrent for you as it’s SOOO worth it. Here’s what I bought just so you know what I’m talking about.
The next story I have happened on the SAME DAY! So I’m randomly checking my personal email (because as a business owner you know you should have two different emails) and I come across one from Sprint. It says “Get a phone added to your plan for free as a thank you for being a valuable customer” (I’ve been with Sprint since I was 19 by the way). I look at the fine print and determine this is an excellent deal – time for me to get my 10 year old a phone then (obviously with a CRAP load of restrictions). I go to Sprint.com and immediately see this pop up:
So I clicked on it, waited for Sprint to load again, and went on to speak with chat support. With the deal they offered, I went ahead and signed my daughter up with a brand new phone. I chose a good but inexpensive phone and only ended up having to pay $10 shipping and $30 activation fee; appearing on my next bill. (I then had to have the serious talk with her about coming home and putting the phone down. the phone is not your life. blah blah blah…. ah kids…)
ANNNYYYWAYY the next day I woke up to this:
And I said the same thing they did, “SWEEEEEET!!”
Now, if you’re following, I paid $30 for my Spotbot and $40 for my daughter’s brand new phone and phone service (unlimited everything might I add) and ended up actually only spending $7.50 for everything!! I repeat SWEEEEEEET! By the way, that $62.50 is not my entire balance with Ebates; only what I’d earned from Sprint.
So how does Ebates work? Well It’s the same concept as Mypoints; you either go to their website and click on the store you want to shop at OR you download their extension to your browser and click on your store through the pop up. As with Mypoints, I have the extension installed so that I never forget to use it. Unlike Mypoints though, with Ebates you get money. Hard CASH! You get a check in the mail every month with money that you’ve accrued though just shopping.
You can download and use Mypoints and Ebates BUT you can only use one at a time in a shopping session. I usually choose which one to use by who’s offering more of an initiative. Sometimes the choice is 3% cash back with Ebates of 5 points per dollar with Mypoints. In that instance, I would choose Mypoints, but you can determine what works best for you.
Also, I want you to be aware that there are affiliate links in this post. This means that if you click on the links and sign up, I get credited for introducing you to the company. Now, I know you TOTALLY don’t have to click on my link, but for those who do I want to thank you so much for your support!
