I know you’re saying, “We’ve spent a lot of time talking about theory, concepts, and creating habits that encourage confidence. Is there anything I can do RIGHT NOW, like a quick-fix?” Concepts and theories are great and if you take what I’ve shared to heart, it will benefit you over time.

These ideas and strategies take time to implement and time to see results; sometimes you need a little “quick fix” that helps make you feel more courageous and gives you an instant boost in confidence.

Your need is my command. In comes the confidence hacks! I’ll be giving you these hacks throughout the remainder of this challenge so still bear with me.

Let’s start today with something fast and easy – The Power Poser.

What Is A Power Pose?

No, we’re not striking a pose with Madonna; although if you want to I won’t tell you no. A power pose is a specific way to sit or stand that will give you an instant boost in confidence and/or courage. Research has been actually done on power poses, and they suggest that your body language (in this sense, the pose you strike) influences your hormones. The poses I’m going to share with you, will give you a boost of testosterone, IF you hold them for about two minutes.

You can strike these poses standing up or sitting down, and use them anytime you need that little extra confidence boost.

How Do I Strike A Power Pose

The easiest power pose in my opinion is the “Wonder Woman” pose. (Yes I know the movie is popular right now, but I swear I’m not going off of that.) You do it by standing with your feet shoulder-width apart and your hands on your hips. Look at a picture of Lynda Carter (the original on-screen Wonder Woman) as Wonder Woman to get the perfect image of this pose.

Thinking about it, this is also the Superman pose. I don’t like Superman though, so we’ll go with Wonder Woman. Oh wait – this is an entirely different type of blog. Back to courage and self-confidence…

If you’re sitting at your desk, lean back in your chair, put your hands behind your head, and put your feet up on your desk for another strong power pose. If your boss comes by, let them know that you’re vying for a raise. (I’m just kidding.) If you don’t want your feet on your desk then simply lean back in your chair, keep your knees apart and rest your arm on the back of the chair /  put it behind your head.

Just standing up tall, or standing up during a meeting with your hands on the table amd leaning in slightly can have a big impact on your confidence. The most important thing is to not hunch over and don’t cross your arms in front of your body!

When Do You Strike A Power Pose

You can strike these poses whenever you need to, that’s the great thing about it! It’s a good habit to spend two minutes first thing in the morning doing your favorite power pose. This will set a confident tone for the rest of your day. Don’t feel silly; this is for your benefit. Then, strike a pose throughout the day any time you feel less confident. You can do these poses just about anywhere for a quick confidence boost break. Head to the bathroom if you feel silly doing this in the middle of the room.

I have seen that when I strike these poses or just walk straight, people even look at me differently – with more confidence. Try it out; you’ll feel SO much better!
